110 carats Sun-Drop Diamond Sold For 12.36 Million USD

The world's largest pear-shaped, fancy vivid yellow diamond was sold at auction in Geneva on Tuesday. Even as the region collectively tightens its belt, the item went for more than 12.3 million US dollars.

The 110 carat "Sun Drop Diamond" was sold to an anonymous private buyer by telephone. According to Sotheby's, diamonds weighing more than 100 carats are very rare.

The diamond was only discovered last year in 2010 in South Africa. Since then, it has been cut into its current shape and put on exhibition at the London Natural History Museum before travelling the world and finally ending up for its first auction in Geneva.

والألماسة هي أكبر ألماسة صفراء زاهية على شكل كمثرى، إذ يبلغ وزنها 110.03 قيراط وكانت من أهم القطع المعروضة في مزاد سوثبي نصف السنوي للمجوهرات في جنيف. وقالت دار المزادات إن الحجر عثر عليه في جنوب إفريقيا العام الماضي وقامت شركة كورا إنترناشونال ومقرها نيويورك بقطعه وصقله وطرحه للبيع في دليلها. وكان تقدير ما قبل البيع بين 11 و15 مليون دولار. ولم يتم الكشف عن اسم المشتري

All About the Clarity of Diamonds

Clarity is an important aspect of a diamond, and it is important to know how to grade the clarity of a diamond before you buy one. It is

actually quite easy to learn how to grade the

clarity of a diamond. There are basically two

things that you must understand: Diamonds

with visual inclusions and blemishes, and

those that are ‘eye clean’ meaning that there

are no inclusions or blemishes that can be

seen with the naked eye. From there, the

clarity of a diamond is further broken down

into subcategories.

Many people mistakenly think that diamond

clarity refers to how clear it is. This isn’t so.

Clarity actually refers to the internal and

external imperfections of the diamond. The

best diamonds, of course get a grade of FL

or IF – Flawless or Internally Flawless –

meaning that it is perfect. A grade of I-1, I-2

or I-3 means that the diamond is imperfect,

with a grade of I-3 being the worst.

Other grades are VVS1 and VVS2, which

means that the diamond is very, very slightly

imperfect; VS1 and VS2, meaning the

diamond is very slightly imperfect; SI-1 and

SI-2, which means that the diamond is

slightly imperfect.

By Christopher Dawson | November 6, 2010, 7:58pm PDT Not only is Samsung preparing the next Google phone, but rumor has it that it’s going to be running the newest version of Android too — 2.3 (Gingerbread).
I am thinking it would make sense if Google released the Gingerbread SDK sometime before the 8th though — you know developers are itching to get their hands on the new operating system. Developers attending PDC were all given a free Windows Phone 7 device today, and things in that space have quite a lot of buzz at the moment. If Google was smart, they would hold a press conference to defuse any kind of momentum Microsoft may be getting.
The new version of Android is said to have a ton of user experience related updates — something I have been waiting for since version 1. Android has always felt a bit unpolished to me — though each release has got better for sure.
One more interesting question that is left unanswered is whether Samsung is actually going to use Google’s new and improved user interface, or if they are going to stick to their guns and have their own custom theme. Either way, I can’t wait for November 8th to see what they’ve got up their sleeve.
